The "Schotense Snorrenclub" is a moustacheclub with a familiar character. Schoten lie in Belgium in the province of Antwerp. All our members having a moustache. You want to learn more about us and other moustacheclubs, than click on one of the following items.

  • INFORMATION OF THE VILLAGE
    location: Schoten be situated +/- 10km north-east of the city of Antwerp. 1/3 is bushy. Schoten as 33.000 residents.
    history: Schoten is founded in the year 420 and is older than the city of Antwerp(650). The Saal-Franks named it "SCOTA", later on "SCOTE". Since the beginning of the sixth century, the "Free Schoten" belongs to the abbey of Lobbes, this till the invade of the Vikings in the year 820. Till the 12-th century was Schoten a noman's-land. In the year 1138 was Schoten overtaken by Amerik and becomes the lord of "Breda" and "Schoten". His 2 sons get Schoten after his dead and divided it in a spiritual and a worldly part. One conducted from the abbey of Villers and the other from the castle of Calixberg. In the 16-th century build rich people of Antwerp several castles like the "Castle of Schoten". Schoten becomes the "Garden of Eden of Antwerp" and the "Village of Castles". End of the 19-th century find middle-class people the way to Schoten and lots of hotels opened, also along the channel. So Schoten becomes to be a "Spa". Lots of "cottages" are from that time.
    tourism: Because Schoten have a rich history, it have lots of castles. But most of the castles are in private hands. So you can not visited them. Only the "Castle of Schoten" with his "Riddershoeve" are to visit. In the first is the "central of culture" hosted en in the second we have a restaurant.
    From the many hotels, their is just one in use anymore hotel Koningshof.
    Marketplace: Its surround by a lovely arcade sculpted by Herman Cornelis, in the middle of the place a "Uilenspiegelfontein". Adjoined is the neo-gothic town-hall from 1905. Behind the arch's of the marketplace is the castle "Gelmelenhof", that give shelter to the local police.
    Castle of van Villers: Situated in the Villerslei. The tower dates back to the year 1267. The abbey played a big part of the Schotens history.
    The church St Cordula: A church with a gothic choir-stall and a nave from the 15th century.
    Vordenstein: Park of 110 hectare with a "orangerie" and a chapel from the year 1436. A promenade-park in English style.
    Schoten have a acquaintance with his yearly cycle race, the classical from first category, the "Scheldeprijs". It have place every year on the third week on April . info:tel 0032 3 658 62 52 web:www.scheldeprijs.be
    In the first half of July we have a international folk-dance festival "Wereldfestival van Folklore". Ware dance-group's from all the world appear. info:tel 0032 3 658 51 57 web:www.festivalschoten.be

       WHAT WE DO ?
    Our club have as target, on a pleasant manner, to get widely known, as well at home and abroad.
    This we get by participation to: happenings from the neighbourhood - culture-events - fraternise to other (moustache)clubs - going on weekends at home and abroad - balls and feeds and during the carnival-period we participated to processions with our "SNORRENWAGEN".carnival
